  • WNY Braver Angels Debate Series

Unlike some debate programs, the point of a Braver Angels debate isn’t to win; it’s to understand the other side a little better. We designed our special parliamentary debate format to encourage everyone to participate, to support good faith, accurate disagreement, and to promote better understanding for all.

You’re welcome to attend any or all!

August 17 – 7 PM. Topic: **Term limits**. Are term limits a form of voter suppression or are they way to ensure better, more effective representation at the local level? Join us to hear different perspectives on the topic or speak in support or against the resolution, **“We should limit elected officials to a set number of terms.”**

September 15 – 7 PM. Topic: **Flock camera systems.** Advocates, including public safety officials see networked surveillance systems like Flock as instrumental for modern policing and public safety. Critics point to issues around privacy, access, and abuse. Join us to hear different perspectives on the topic or speak in support or against the resolution, **“Networked surveillance systems like Flock are a good use of tax-payer dollars.”**

October 13 – 7 PM. Topic: **Health care.** There is a consensus that the current health care system in the United States is on shaky ground. Our current model asks a lot of medical professionals, hospitals, patients, and their families. Our disagreement is around how we fix it. Join us to hear or speak in support or against the resolution, **“New York State should prioritize Medicaid for All.”**

Once you register, you’ll be asked if you want to speak in support of or against the resolution. Anyone is welcome to speak. Speakers are limited to four minutes. More information on the debate format will be provided at the event.
