Washington, D.C. — Today, Leah Greenberg, Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of Indivisible, released the following statement in response to the federal raid on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home:
“For a decade, Trump has targeted Rep. Ilhan Omar with grotesque, racist rhetoric that has fueled threats against her. This federal raid on her home is a dangerous escalation. Rep. Omar has done nothing to warrant this kind of intimidation. Deploying federal law enforcement against a sitting member of Congress just weeks before an election is an abuse of power designed to punish critics, sow fear, and inflame racial divisions ahead of the midterms.
“We cannot ignore the timing of this attack. Over the past year, Trump has escalated his attacks on Somali Americans and Minnesota. This raid comes just days after he intensified his racist rhetoric against Somali Americans and urged his supporters to fight back.
“This is another attempt by Trump to undermine our democracy by weaponizing the federal government against political opponents. No president should be able to abuse their power to intimidate elected officials or silence dissent. We stand with Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.”
