WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, Peggy Flanagan won Minnesota’s U.S. Senate race, marking a major victory for working people and voters demanding a new generation of Democratic leadership willing to fight back. Indivisible endorsed Flanagan in February, following a formal endorsement from Minnesota Indivisible groups and their recommendation for national endorsement.
After Senate Democrats caved to Trump under Chuck Schumer’s leadership last year, Indivisible required every Senate candidate seeking its endorsement to commit to opposing Schumer as Senate Democratic Leader, and Flanagan made that commitment. Flanagan also surmounted a challenging primary against establishment-backed Angie Craig in the primary, with millions spent by outside groups to defeat Flanagan.
Flanagan built a grassroots movement focused on lowering costs, protecting working families, and standing up to powerful interests, while refusing corporate PAC contributions. Her victory offers a clear alternative to politics as usual and signals that voters want leaders who answer to their communities, not wealthy donors and special interests. She also makes history as the first Native American woman elected to the U.S. Senate.
“Tonight, Minnesotans made clear that they want leaders who fight for them — not ones who make peace with a corrupt political system dominated by billionaires and corporate interests. Peggy Flanagan has been unwavering in her commitment to standing up for Minnesotans, including taking on the Trump administration’s Metro Surge and demanding accountability for its attacks on Minnesota communities. She built a grassroots movement around lowering costs, protecting working families, and standing up to powerful interests. Her victory is part of a larger movement demanding a new generation of leaders willing to challenge entrenched power and fight for the people they represent. The incoming Congress and Senate must meet that mandate with action: confront corruption, take on the Trump regime, deliver for working families, and reject the Democratic Party’s failed status quo in favor of a new standard of leadership that refuses to settle for business as usual. We’re proud to have stood with Peggy, and we look forward to seeing her take that fight to the Senate,” said Ezra Levin, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible.
“Peggy’s victory represents an important moment for people demanding leadership that puts working families, democracy, and everyday Americans before billionaires’ profits. This state has spoken: Flanagan is the fighter we need right now to deliver results for the American people. We recognize and celebrate the grassroots organizers, volunteers, and supporters who made this victory possible. Minnesota is proud today because Peggy has decisively won the seat of her late mentor, Paul Wellstone. And nobody knows better than Peggy: ‘We all do better when we all do better,'” said Kelly Klein and Pam Whitfield, Co-Group Leaders for Indivisible 507.
“Peggy Flanagan is one of us. She understands the challenges our families are facing in these tough economic times, because she’s lived the same kind of experiences. Endorsing Peggy Flanagan for the U.S. Senate was an easy choice for Red River United Indivisible and she received unanimous support from our membership. At a time when too many politicians are influenced by powerful interests, Peggy has refused corporate PAC money and remained accountable to the people of Minnesota. Peggy is a fighter for families, affordable healthcare, economic opportunity, environmental justice, and a government that works for everyday people — not corporate donors. We know she will bring integrity, authenticity, and people-powered leadership to the Senate,” said Joy Cooper, Group Leader for Red River United Indivisible.
About Indivisible’s 2026 Electoral Program
Peggy Flanagan’s win is part of the largest midterm election program in Indivisible’s history. Last November, after Senate Democrats surrendered and voted to end the 41-day government shutdown without securing any commitments to lower health care costs or protect working families, Indivisible announced its largest primary program in the movement’s history to turn the page on failed Democratic leadership and elect fighters, not folders.
Indivisible endorsements started with local groups, which endorsed candidates, recommended them for a national endorsement, and then spent months knocking doors, making calls, and sending texts to carry them through competitive primaries and the general election. Many candidates took on establishment-backed opponents and turned down corporate PAC, crypto, AI, and AIPAC money – and 11 Indivisible-endorsed candidates won their primary races across the country.
After a historic primary season, Indivisible Action launched its 2026 General Election Program on a call with thousands of grassroots leaders from across the country. The program had three goals: flip the Senate, win a strong Democratic majority in the House, and build the grassroots power to turn a Democratic victory into aggressive action on accountability, affordability, and corruption in 2027.
The program was built in response to the No Kings movement, which brought millions of Americans into the streets to oppose authoritarianism, corruption, and the concentration of power in the hands of Trump and his wealthy allies. On October 17, the No Kings: Vote Early national day of action held nearly 3,000 voter events nationwide. Across states reporting up-to-date data, early voting that day was up 43% in counties with No Kings: Vote Early events, compared to the last midterms. This built on the three largest protests in American history: No Kings 1, No Kings 2, and No Kings 3.
The midterm election results show that voters want leaders who will fight for them, not protect a corrupt status quo. Indivisible’s polling with Lake Research Partners found that 73% of battleground voters are more likely to support candidates who fight to lower costs and hold the powerful accountable. The incoming Congress must meet that mandate by confronting the Trump regime and its billionaire backers, tackling the affordability crisis, and challenging corruption and entrenched power. Tonight, voters made clear that they expect Democrats to fight for them and deliver results.
