  • Indivisible on DOJ’s Investigation of the Southern Poverty Law Center

    Apr 22, 2026

Washington, D.C. — Today, Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible, released the following statement concerning the investigation launched by Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a legal advocacy nonprofit dedicated to dismantling white supremacy:

“The decision by Trump and his personal lawyer/Attorney General Todd Blanche to attack the SPLC is shocking, yet unsurprising. A white supremacist authoritarian regime that’s gone after perceived political enemies since Inauguration Day was always going to try to take on the nation’s premier organization fighting to dismantle white supremacy.

“The administration’s allegations are nonsensical, which makes sense because they don’t care at all about the truth. This is a transparent attempt to shut down the crucial work of the SPLC holding accountable perpetrators of hate, and to create a chilling effect for all other civil rights organizations and activists.”

“It’s the federal government’s duty to protect the rights and freedoms of all people living in this country. That Trump sees government as a tool for retaliation and authoritarian power consolidation underscores the danger he poses to those rights and freedoms. This investigation is a sham, a blatant effort to intimidate – and a failure in the making. Indivisible stands proudly with the SPLC.”
