Washington, D.C. — Today Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible, released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the Trump administration to strip Temporary Protected Status (TPS) protections from immigrants in the US seeking safety from war, violence, and humanitarian crises in their home countries:
“This decision is a cruel blow to hundreds of thousands of people who came to the US seeking safety after fleeing violence, war, and instability in their home countries, and who built their lives here under protections granted by our own laws. These are our neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family members. Stripping away their status doesn’t just change paperwork — it puts families at risk of separation and places working class people directly in the crosshairs of Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda.
“Make no mistake: this ruling emboldens the Trump administration’s broader campaign to strip people of legal protections and make more immigrants vulnerable to detention and deportation. Once again, the Supreme Court’s MAGA majority has chosen to clear the way for Trump’s extremist agenda instead of protecting the people whose lives will be upended by this decision. But we will continue to stand with and for one another, starting with demanding that our leaders pass permanent protections for people who have come seeking safety.”
