  • Indivisible on the Baseless U.S. Sanctions Against ICC Officials

    Aug 18, 2026

Washington, D.C. — Today Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible, released the following statement on the Trump administration’s decision to sanction International Criminal Court (ICC) President Tomoko Akane and senior trial lawyer Abdoulaye Seye:

“The Trump administration is once again choosing to protect war criminals instead of holding them accountable. At a time when people are being murdered and displaced in Gaza and across the region by the Israeli government, the United States is sanctioning international officials investigating war crimes while welcoming and embracing the very leaders committing them.

“Donald Trump and Marco Rubio are escalating against the ICC because they’re afraid of being held accountable. Rather than ending their own dangerous wars and bombing campaigns, or ending the flow of our tax dollars to Netanyahu’s genocide in Gaza, they’re attacking ICC officials just for doing their job. It’s disgraceful – but they can’t escape accountability forever. Congress must investigate this administration’s lawless warmongering and flagrant violations of US and international laws that are wasting our resources and making the world more dangerous. ”
