Washington, D.C. — Today Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible, released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision in Trump v. Slaughter:
“The Supreme Court just threw out nearly a century of precedent to help Trump consolidate power and reward corruption. Independent agencies exist to serve the public interest, not the political interests of whichever president happens to be in office. By stripping those protections, the Supreme Court is dismantling the checks and balances it is supposed to uphold.
“The carveout for the Federal Reserve only shows how grossly political this decision is. Apparently independence only matters when financial markets are at stake, but not when agencies are protecting consumers, workers, or the public from corporate abuse.
“It is shocking, but sadly not surprising. John Roberts and the MAGA majority are willing to set fire to history, precedent, and any consistent constitutional principle in order to give Trump more power with less oversight. This brazen, undemocratic partisanship and corruption must be investigated, the justices must be held accountable, and the court must be reformed to disempower the current anti-constitutional majority.”
