Washington, DC — Today, The Indivisible Project, issued the following statements:

“Today’s ‘acquittal’ is not really an acquittal – because this impeachment ‘trial’ is not really a trial. Republican Senators, with just one exception, have gone against the majority of Americans and stuck their heads in the sand to avoid hearing new evidence or testimony. Today, they delivered a historically shameful verdict. They’ve never been interested in the truth. They’re just interested in protecting Trump.

At every step in this process, Republicans in Congress have been content to do Trump’s bidding. They spewed his nonsensical talking points, they twisted logic to mount baseless defenses, and they contorted the American legal system to create a sham trial. And, at every step, grassroots activists and their constituents have been watching and growing more and more frustrated with their lack of principles and patriotism.”—Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible

“Today’s vote demonstrates that the problem is not Trump – it’s much worse.  Senator Romney, the former Republican presidential candidate, took a brave step to stand up for the constitution. He was alone in his party. Every single other Republican senator sent a clear message today: Trump is more important than the constitution.. But November is coming. And both Trump and his complicit Republican colleagues will have to face the public soon.” —Ezra Levin, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible
