  • Indivisible Remembers Honorable Reverend Jesse L. Jackson

    Feb 17, 2026

Washington, D.C. — Today, Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible, released the following statement following the death of civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson, protégé of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., founder of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, and two-time Democratic candidate for president:

“Indivisible joins the country in mourning the loss of civil rights giant Rev. Jesse Jackson. As a presidential candidate at the 1988 Democratic National Convention, Jackson gave expression to the position in which we now find ourselves: ‘All of us who are here think that we are seated. But we’re really standing on someone’s shoulders.’

“Reverend Jackson’s vision of nonviolent, people-powered organizing is foundational to Indivisible’s work. Jackson spent his entire life blazing a trail challenging systems of oppression, not only in the U.S., but internationally. His lifelong fight for racial equity and economic justice was groundbreaking, and his message was always informed by love.

“We are deeply grateful for Jackson’s life and leadership, and send our heartfelt condolences to his family and all who loved and admired him. We honor Rev. Jesse Jackson in his passing and remain wholly committed to nonviolent action, multiracial democracy, and a government that is accountable to the people it serves.”
