Washington, DC — Today, the Biden Administration announced a decision to end Title 42, a U.S. public health law put in place by the Trump administration to baselessly prevent asylum-seekers and refugees from entering. Mary Small, National Advocacy Director at Indivisible, issued the following statement in response:

"President Biden’s decision to end Title 42 is a testament to his belief in humane treatment for the most vulnerable. Originally put in place by the Trump administration, Title 42 cruelly blocked asylum-seekers entering the U.S.–even as tourists and shoppers came and left freely.

"In the aftermath of the historically cruel and anti-immigrant Trump Administration, and as Ukrainians join the many other nationalities seeking safety at our borders, President Biden is the compassionate leader this country–and this world–needs. The Biden Administration should take steps to implement this decision immediately.

"Seeking asylum is a legal form of entry, and all asylum-seekers deserve to be able to access safety under both international and American law. Ending Title 42 is an important first step away from the callous policies of the past administration, and Indivisibles are excited to support President Biden as he continues leading our country into a new era of humane immigration policies."

Indivisible is providing support from the outside for the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the list of executive actions it has recently asked the President to take action on through Indivisible's 'Let’s Go Joe' Campaign.
