Washington, D.C. — Today, Indivisible’s co-founder and co-executive director Leah Greenberg released the following statement on last night’s Russian invasion of Ukraine:
“This morning, we’re all watching Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, a democratic country, in horror.
“This is not a situation in which there are two sides: there is no justification for this act of aggression. Ukrainian leaders and the international community have been engaged in extensive diplomatic efforts to prevent this sort of escalation, while Putin has rejected all efforts at diplomacy. Russia’s actions are a series of horrific, violent aggressions led by Putin and his oligarchs. The terrible human cost of this escalating conflict is a direct result of their aggression.
“We recognize and are grateful for the Biden administration’s tireless efforts to avert this wholly unnecessary war. We now urge him and international leaders to lead a coordinated, multilateral response to Russia’s actions, driving towards deescalation and an immediate cease-fire, as well as humanitarian efforts to support refugees fleeing the fighting. There should be no military action without Congress’ approval.
“Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine.”
