Washington, DC — Today, Indivisible’s co-founder and co-executive director Ezra Levin issued the following statement ahead of the House’s vote on the Republican continuing resolution:
"This vote is a receipt. House Republicans just voted to give a blank check to Trump and Musk to continue their coup, and to codify the harmful DOGE cuts that are a direct attack on working families, the economy, and the services everyday Americans rely on.
"Since Trump took office, Republicans in every corner of this country have been bombarded with calls, protests, and pressure at home because of Trump and Musk’s agenda. People are losing their jobs, losing access to social services, and living in fear of authoritarian takeover. They’re not happy, and these spineless members of Congress know it. They can try to hide or spin their way out of this, but their vote speaks volumes.
“Last week, Indivisible’s voted overwhelmingly (67%) against Democrats lending any votes to any resolution that doesn’t include ironclad protections against Trump. This bill not only doesn’t include protections, it expands discretion for Musk and Trump over spending.
“Leader Jeffries and all but one House Democrat saw this sham of a funding bill for what it was—an attempt to quietly advance MAGA priorities under the guise of a ‘clean’ extension—and they stood united against it. They showed real leadership by holding the line and refusing to rubber-stamp an agenda that undermines our democracy and undercuts work families. We hope Senate Democrats bring that same resolve.
"Next week, Members of Congress should be home for recess, and their constituents will have questions. If these Republicans and Rep. Golden truly believe this vote was the right choice, they should have no problem standing in front of their communities and explaining why. But they know they betrayed their voters and our democracy—and they don’t care to be held accountable. So recess will probably go as expected—they’ll dodge town halls, try to lay low, and hope voters forget. We’re not going to let that happen. Republicans own this mess.”
