Washington, D.C. — Today, Andrew O’Neill, Indivisible’s National Advocacy Director, released the following statement on Senate Minority Leader Schumer and House Minority Leader Jeffries’ unified stance that Democrats will not support a partisan spending agreement that continues Republicans’ healthcare cuts:
“This is a welcome move from Democrats, and Indivisibles across the nation stand ready to fight. Trump is rapidly consolidating power and driving up the cost of living, imperiling our lives and health by gutting Medicaid, sending troops into our cities, kidnapping and disappearing our neighbors, and unleashing economic chaos with his tariff policies. Trump and his budget chief Russell Vought are also stealing hundreds of billions of dollars from American families intended for things like education, public safety, and essential health services - and now they’re demanding Congress give them a budget with no strings attached.
“Democrats have a strong hand to play. Rolling back Medicaid cuts and permanently extending the ACA tax credits should be a no-brainer. And Democrats must deny this wanna-be king the blank check Republicans are writing for him. Any bill receiving Democratic votes must meaningfully constrain Trump’s illegal weaponization of the budget to rob our services, militarize our cities, and terrorize our communities.
“This is a turning point for Democrats; now more than ever, we need fighters in Congress who meet this moment of crisis with the same boldness and tenacity we’re seeing in communities across the country rising up to defy Trump’s power-grab and intimidation tactics. Any spending deal must meet the needs of the American people and rein in Trump’s lawlessness.”
