Washington, D.C. — Today, Sarah Dohl, Indivisible’s Chief Campaigns Officer, released the following statement responding to the Senate’s confirmation of Russell Vought as Director of the Office of Management and Budget:
“Russell Vought isn’t just another Trump crony—he’s the architect of Project 2025 and the unconstitutional OMB memo that lays the groundwork for gutting our government. His confirmation is a flashing red siren for every working family in America. Senate Republicans just handed the power to slash essential programs—like school lunches for hungry kids, Medicaid that keeps nursing homes open, and food assistance that helps families put dinner on the table—to a man whose entire mission is economic sabotage in service of billionaires like Elon Musk. This is cruelty as policy, and it will hurt millions.
“This vote is a stain on every Republican Senator who backed him. For Senators like Murkowski, Sullivan, Collins, Husted, Ernst, and Tillis, they'll have to answer to their constituents. For the past week, Senate offices have been inundated with furious calls from constituents demanding they reject this dangerous nominee. People showed up, they spoke out, and they will not forget who chose to side with authoritarianism over their communities.
“But let’s be clear: this fight doesn’t end today. A majority of Senate Democrats fought like hell to block this confirmation, but there’s no room for backsliding. The next wave of extremists—including Tulsi Gabbard, Kash Patel, RFK Jr., and Linda McMahon—must be met with even stronger resistance. No business as usual. No handshakes with extremists. Democrats must use every tool available to delay and defy the Trump-Musk coup. Anything less is complicity.”
