Washington, D.C. — Today, Andrew O’Neill, Indivisible’s National Advocacy Director, released the following statement following Trump’s refusal to comply with Supreme Court orders and facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from his illegal detention in El Salvador:
“Any person with a fragment of a conscience should be outraged by what’s happening to Kilmar Abrego Garcia. The Trump administration’s abduction and detention of Abrego Garcia in El Salvador was always illegal and inhumane. Trump’s refusal to comply with the Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling to facilitate the safe return of Garcia is the latest step in Trump’s hostile takeover of our government. He’s conspiring with a corrupt foreign leader to strip away our rights and empower himself - and he’s openly saying he’s coming for US citizens next. Every member of Congress and elected official should be insisting as loudly as possible that Abrego Garcia be immediately returned to this country, in accordance with the unanimous Supreme Court order.
“Trump wants us to be afraid – but we refuse. We choose not to give in, and to show up every day with courage. We demand a country where nobody is disappeared from the street by Trump’s goons, where due process is granted to everyone, and where our rights are protected.”
