Washington, D.C. — Today, Ezra Levin, Indivisible’s co-founder and co-executive director, released the following statement ahead following Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) decision to freeze nearly all federal grants and loans:
"Trump’s latest power grab isn’t just unconstitutional—it’s cruel, chaotic, and catastrophic for millions of families. This is the most radical presidential action I've ever seen. By freezing billions in federal funds, Trump is ripping apart the very foundation of our democracy: check and balances, and Congress’s power of the purse.
“Trump is daring anyone to stop him as he seizes power, ignoring Congress and rewriting laws by decree. We need Democrats to use every procedural maneuver to grind things to stop and use every media tool to raise alarm and allow public pressure to build. Shut down the Senate, refuse to allow them to steamroll, and take this fight to every town hall, courtroom, and news outlet. Shut it down.
“As for Republicans: their silence is deafening and damning. This isn’t some arcane policy dispute—it’s a constitutional crisis that is a direct attack on hungry kids, evicted families, and struggling students. Their constituents deserve answers, and we’re going to make sure they get them.
“This fight is about more than dollars and cents—it’s about defending democracy itself. If Trump gets away with this, every law Congress passes becomes optional for future presidents. We can’t let that happen. This is a revolution, not a memo—and it’s time to meet the moment with relentless, uncompromising pushback."
