Washington, D.C. — Today, Indivisible’s Managing Director and Arizona Battleground Lead Mari Urbina released the following statement on the success of the Abortion Access Ballot Initiative:
“Arizona voters made a powerful choice to protect abortion rights, care and reclaim their freedoms. This victory is a rejection of Trump's abortion bans from Arizona's small towns to its larger cities.
“Indivisibles, along with the members of Arizonans for Abortion Access, gathered over 800,000 signatures to get here—each one representing a conversation, a moment of unity, and a commitment to protect each other’s rights to make deeply personal decisions.
“The initiative safeguards access to abortion care and it cements reproductive freedom as a fundamental right. Arizonans worked to secure their rights, and turned out.”
About Indivisible’s impact & work with Arizona Abortion Alliance:
- Indivisible volunteers gathered 32,064 signatures from every county and congressional district in the state.
- Over 400 volunteers used our revolutionary new neighbor-to-neighbor program to gather AAA signatures from their neighbors.
- Indivisible volunteers hosted more than 500 events statewide to gather signatures, such as at hiking trailheads, rock climbing gyms, tattoo parlors, Pride events, etc. Our volunteers went where the people were.
- Indivisible volunteers held ten (10) rallies across the state after the AZ Supreme Court ruling that sent us back to 1864. The rallies generated large amounts of press and attracted over 2,000 new volunteers and activists.
