WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Indivisible, one of the nation’s largest national progressive grassroots organizations, released the following statements honoring President Joe Biden’s announcements regarding the 2024 presidential campaign:
“This was a once-in-a-generation act of statesmanship. President Biden did what he thought was right for his country, and he did it with trademark decency, honesty, and a humbling dedication to public service.
“In this moment, we’re filled with gratitude for our President for his sacrifice, and for our Vice President as she prepares to pick up the torch.
“Yesterday, Indivisible polled its local leaders from every state in the country with a simple question: if President Biden were to drop out of the race, would they support rallying around Vice President Harris as the new Democratic nominee. An incredible 95.6% of our leaders said yes. Vice President Kamala Harris is meeting the moment with all the tenacity and clarity of purpose that we need from our standard bearer. Indivisible is fully behind her candidacy. We’re ready to fight alongside her for every single vote.
“President Biden delivered transformational policies for the American people in spite of the slimmest of congressional majorities and the worst of opposition. He passed the American Rescue plan, to show the American people how government can help in moments of crisis. He appointed Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and got her confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court, a historic pick and a devastatingly sharp voice for justice at the time the court needed it most. He delivered unprecedented climate action, including huge investments in renewable energy and electrification. He’s taken on Big Pharma and lowered prescription drug prices. He’s raised the minimum corporate tax rate, so megacorporations start paying more of their fair share. He’s expanded overtime pay for millions of working Americans and aggressively cracked down on predatory fees to keep money in people’s pockets.
“In their first term, President Biden and Vice President Harris led the country through a perilous time, and restored decency and dignity to the White House. We could not be more grateful for their work.
“In Kamala Harris, we know we will have a nominee running on a decades-long record of accomplishments and public service. She’s been a champion for reproductive freedom, gun violence prevention and voting rights. She’s been an advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault at a time when MAGA Republicans are trying to turn back the clock and strip women of their freedom and self-determination. She’s stood up to Donald Trump’s fascism fearlessly.
“We know that we’ve only seen the beginning of what Kamala Harris can do, as a candidate and a leader. From all we have known about her, we know she has what it takes to step up in this challenging moment. When Senator Harris held the Trump administration’s feet to the fire on the Senate Judiciary Committee and called out Trump’s extremist Supreme Court nominees for all their failings, our movement applauded. When presidential candidate Harris brought her brilliant tenacity to the debate stage, our movement was inspired, as reflected in moments like Harris’s lead in our 2019 post-debate poll results. This cycle, our tireless Indivisible leaders in Arizona have gotten to see her in action on the campaign trail, championing reproductive freedom. They know and we know she’s an incredible communicator on the issues that matter most.
“Everything we care about is on the ballot this November: our bodily autonomy, economic and climate justice, and the fate of democracy itself. We can and will use our people power to win: to elect Kamala Harris, expand our majorities, and reclaim our rights and democracy.”

BACKGROUND
Indivisible is one of the country’s largest and most influential networks of grassroots activists. Founded in 2017 as part of the resistance to Trump’s election, Indivisible made its mark as one of the driving forces behind the “Blue Wave” that swept Republicans out of office. In 2020, Indivisible served as a progressive voice for Democratic unity, and later became a national hub for pandemic volunteer activity, setting up the cycle’s “best no-contact field program” according to Campaigns & Elections. In the 2022 midterms, Indivisible dug in to defend Democratic incumbents in the House. Echoing President Biden’s forceful message about protecting our democracy, Indivisible helped draw attention to GOP extremism in key states.
