Washington, DC — Indivisible’s Crush the Coup program, which is aimed at defeating Republicans’ attempts at a MAGA coup in 2024 by focusing on winning races in key state legislatures, in anticipation of the Moore v. Harper “independent state legislature theory” case, celebrated key victories in the preliminary election night results.
The national organization helped fundraise nearly a quarter million dollars for the program, which supported candidates in key battleground states.
Twenty of those candidates have won their races. While results are still coming in, Democrats held a trifecta in Michigan; denied Republicans a supermajority in Wisconsin and North Carolina.
“Coming out of 2020, Republicans telegraphed their strategy for stealing the 2024 election: win or retain control of key state legislatures, have the MAGA dominated Supreme Court empower them, and use that power to declare Trump the winner in 2024. Last night, we significantly narrowed their path to a coup,” said Ezra Levin, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible.
So far, 20 of those candidates have won their races. They are:
- Sen. Christine Marsh (Arizona, SD-04)
- Eva Burch (Arizona, SD-09)
- Laura Terech (Arizona, LD-04)
- Judy Schweibert (Arizona, LD-02)
