Washington, DC — Today, Dani Negrete, National Political Director for Indivisible, issued the following statement after 18 were injured and 5 were killed at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado this past weekend:
“Queer people are worthy of safety. We are worthy of love. We are worthy of being cherished. We are worthy of life.
“The Indivisible family is mourning the violence and terror in Colorado Springs over the weekend. But mourning does not mean inaction. A tragedy like this isn't random or shocking--it's an expected outcome of the larger assault on LGBTQ lives propagated by the likes of Tucker Carlson, Matt Walsh, Lauren Boebert, and others. Their constant campaign of hate targeting queer lives and queer spaces is responsible for this tragedy, as is the culture of gun violence that continues to poison every American community.
“That this tragedy happened the same weekend as Trans Day of Remembrance underscores what an essential moment this is in the fight to ensure LGBTQ people are welcomed and supported in every community. When safe spaces like Club Q become targets, there can be no more sidelines in the fight for equality and safety.”
