Washington, D.C. — Today, Ezra Levin, Indivisible’s co-founder and co-executive director, released the following statement in response to Arizona Republicans blockage of a repeal of their 1864 abortion ban:
"Arizona Republicans blocking a repeal of an 1864 abortion ban today is the least shocking thing to happen in politics today. The bans are the point. Donald Trump, Kari Lake, and the rest of the Republican party are leading a nationwide crusade to undermine reproductive rights and personal freedoms. And this is exactly what they envisioned when they celebrated the end of Roe. Make no mistake: Republicans like Donald Trump and Kari Lake did this.
“Abortion—and Republicans like Trump, Kari Lake, and Juan Ciscomani—are all on the ballot this November. They are scrambling to distance themselves from this unpopular abortion ban as their polls continue to drop. It’s pathetic. In the coming days, some Arizona Republicans might follow suit, but it's too late to save face.
“The outrage across Arizona is palpable. From Flagstaff to Phoenix, Indivisibles are mobilized. Arizonans are hitting the streets, ready to fight this ban, put abortion rights on the November ballot, defeat Trump, and elect leaders like Ruben Gallego.
“We’ll continue doing everything we can to support Arizonans in their fight to protect their reproductive freedoms. Regardless of what Arizona Republicans do next to cover up, we will absolutely make sure no one forgets this egregious decision come November 5th.”
