Washington, D.C. — Today, Indivisible’s co-founder and co-executive director Ezra Levin released the following statement on Judge Susan Crawford’s election to the Wisconsin Supreme Court:
“It must hurt to be Elon Musk or Donald Trump right now. They threw their money, their influence, and their tantrums behind Brad Schimel, hoping they could buy a Supreme Court seat and drag Wisconsin back to the dark ages. Turns out, Wisconsin voters weren’t interested. They saw right through the desperate billionaire antics and chose a justice who will stand up against their desperate power grabs. This was an all-out rejection of oligarchy.
“This race wasn’t just about one Supreme Court seat—it was a full-blown referendum on Trump, Musk, and the extremist agenda they’re trying to force on all of us. Wisconsin voters rejected Trump and Musk’s attacks on reproductive freedom, their crusade against fair elections, and their general unhinged MAGA nonsense.
“With Susan Crawford on the bench, Wisconsin is in good hands. She’s spent her career fighting for workers, defending reproductive rights, and standing up to right-wing extremists who think the law only applies when it benefits them. She understands what’s at stake, and she’ll be a justice who puts the people of Wisconsin first—not the whims of billionaire donors or MAGA cronies.
“But let’s be real—this win didn’t just happen. Despite Musk and Republicans pouring millions into this race, practically bribing voters with lump sums of cash, people all over Wisconsin did the work to reject them. This victory is because Indivisibles and grassroots organizers—from Green Bay to Racine, from Eau Claire to Madison and Milwaukee—did the work. They knocked doors, made calls, and made damn sure voters turned out. We couldn’t be prouder to stand with them in this fight.
“To every Republican on the ballot between now and 2026: beware. If you want to keep your job, you might want to rethink your allegiance to despots and oligarchs.”
Following the 2024 election, 22 Indivisible groups across the state of Wisconsin gathered virtually, and unanimously decided to direct their focus and advocacy around this race. Since then, they’ve been working around the clock to help Judge Susan Crawford win. Indivisibles made 668,000 voter contact attempts from over 2,000 volunteers through phonebanks and textbanks, canvassing weekly with cross-coalition partners, and reaching out to people in their community through Indivisible’s Neighbor2Neighbor and with partners, and more.
