Washington, D.C. — Indivisible’s co-executive director Ezra Levin, released the following statement in response to ABC pulling Jimmy Kimmel off the air:
“Let’s be clear about what just happened, Donald Trump’s handpicked FCC Chairman issued a threat against ABC affiliates, and within hours, Jimmy Kimmel was pulled off the air. This isn’t about one late-night host, it’s about Trump weaponizing government power to silence dissent and intimidate the press.
“Americans have the right to free speech without fear of government retribution. What we’re seeing instead is the President colluding with corporate media executives and powerful station owners to muzzle voices he doesn’t like. That’s not just censorship, it’s an authoritarian playbook.
“Every step Trump takes to crush dissent, whether it’s cracking down on peaceful protest or coercing media companies, is a step toward rendering the First Amendment meaningless. Nexstar and Disney may think they’re protecting their bottom line, but history will remember that they caved to political bullying at the expense of democracy.
“Indivisible was founded to stop authoritarianism in its tracks. We will not be intimidated, and we will not let Trump dictate what voices Americans are allowed to hear. That’s why on October 18th, exactly one month from today, millions of us will take to the streets for No Kings, the largest peaceful mass mobilization in American history to defend our rights and our democracy.
“This fight isn’t about one TV show, it’s about whether free speech and democracy survive. And the American people will make it clear: we will not be silenced.”
