Washington, D.C. — Today, Ezra Levin, Indivisible’s co-founder and co-executive director, released the following statement on Indivisible’s campaign to boycott and protest Disney and ABC following the firing of Jimmy Kimmel:
“Bob Iger apparently never watched Andor. He should binge watch it this weekend, look deep within his soul, and reverse course – or resign in disgrace as CEO of Disney. Until then, Indivisible is organizing to save this beloved American company from disgrace, and to protect our constitutional rights that Iger is so willing to sacrifice.
“Iger’s cowardice is bad for Disney and bad for democracy. There was a time when Disney was on the side of democracy, producing some of the most memorable anti-fascist cartoons of the 1940s to help us win the war. But eighty years later, Iger is tarnishing a great American company’s reputation with his cowardly capitulation to Trump’s goons. Rather than stand up for free speech, he’s falling over to help an unpopular president squash dissent and trample our rights. Shame, Bob, shame.
“Iger didn’t suspend Jimmy Kimmel because of some joke gone too far. He suspended Kimmel after Trump’s cronies threatened to weaponize the federal government against broadcasters until they bowed to his will. Trump told Iger to jump, and like a good little foot soldier, Iger asked ‘how high?’ What a shameful embarrassment - Disney deserves better.
“Indivisible isn’t going to sit quietly while Trump tramples over our rights, and Bob Iger licks his boots. We will apply pressure to Disney to save Disney - and we invite other Disney fans to join us. We’re canceling our subscriptions, we’re showing up, and we’re demanding answers until Iger reinstates Kimmel, stops caving to MAGA bullies, and commits to defending free speech. And Congress must subpoena Carr, Sinclair, Nexstar, and Iger to get to the bottom of this corruption.”
Indivisible is calling on its base to:
- Cancel Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ subscriptions - TODAY, until they stop enabling Trump’s authoritarian power grab.
- Engage in peaceful public protest to expose the capitulation of Disney and ABC.
- Call on every member of the Disney and ABC boards, every celebrity with a show on their platforms, and anyone with a voice within those corporations to defend our First Amendment right to free speech against this authoritarian power grab.
The demands of this campaign include:
- Bob Iger reverses his capitulation and issues a public apology.
- ABC and Disney reinstate Kimmel on his program.
- ABC and Disney commit to standing up for first amendment rights in the face of authoritarian intimidation.
- ABC and Disney cease their political corruption with Trump and Carr.
- Our elected representatives subpoena Iger, Carr, Sinclair, and Nexstar to get to the bottom of this scheme to trample our first amendment rights.
