WASHINGTON, DC — In response to news that Donald Trump’s Department of Justice has criminally charged New York Attorney General Letitia James, Indivisible Co-Executive Director Leah Greenberg released the following statement:
“Letitia James is being criminally charged for the ‘crime’ of holding Donald Trump accountable. That’s not justice—it’s authoritarian retribution. This indictment is the clearest sign yet that Trump’s project isn’t just corruption—it’s monarchy. He’s using the power of the federal government to punish his public servants and protect himself.
Letitia James stood up to Trump’s fraud and abuse. Now he’s trying to make an example of her. Every American who believes in the rule of law should see this for what it is: an attack on our democracy from a man who wants to rule, not serve.
Indivisible stands in full solidarity with Attorney General James and with every public servant who refuses to bow to a wannabe king. The work of No Kings—the fight to build a democracy where no one is above the law—continues right here, right now.
We will not be intimidated. We will not be silenced. We will not let Trump’s weaponization of the Department of Justice go unanswered.
This is the moment for every American to say clearly: We stand with Tish James. We stand with democracy. We stand against tyranny. There are no kings in America.”
