WASHINGTON, D.C.—Tonight, Indivisible celebrates the overwhelming passage of California’s Proposition 50, the redistricting ballot measure that came in response to Texas Governor Greg Abbott and the state Republican’s mid-decade partisan redistricting of the state:
“California voters just said ‘F*ck No’ to Trump’s authoritarian power grab. Prop 50 is more than a ballot measure. It’s a blueprint for how we defend democracy. It proves that when voters are given the chance to stand up and fight back, they do – by huge margins and in the face of relentless intimidation,” said Leah Greenberg, co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible.
“This victory is a warning to every Republican governor trying to rig the map for Trump’s benefit and strip voters – especially Black and brown communities – of their electoral power. California voters said loud and clear: we’re not folding, we’re fighting. And they won.”
“This win should light a fire under Democratic governors everywhere. When leaders in states like Virginia, Maryland, and Illinois look at the win in California, their takeaways should be clear: Be bold. Be ambitious. Follow California’s lead. The path to protecting democracy runs through empowered voters and a movement that refuses to back down. We need leaders who will meet the moment, and we’ll be there on the ground and at the polls when they do.”
Through Neighbor2Neighbor, over 1700 Indivisible volunteers connected with 15,000 people across their communities to get out to vote.
