Washington, D.C. — Today, Ezra Levin, co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible, released the following statement ahead of the House’s vote on the Republican bill:
“Every House Democrat should vote against this scam of a bill. Republicans shut down rural hospitals and cancer research, let premiums skyrocket, raised the cost of living for working families, and held the government hostage for more than 40 days to push their cruel agenda. Democrats held strong, and they were winning. Now that spineless Senate Democrats caved, it’s up to the House to keep fighting.
“Leader Jeffries is right to oppose this sham of a deal, and every House Democrat should follow his lead. His job now is to ensure Democrats stand together and stay true to their values. The grassroots response to Senate Democrats’ cave should make it crystal clear to any Democrat in the House with a shadow of doubt: this bill is unacceptable. If Republicans want to pass this bill, they can do it themselves – with their votes, their chaos, and their blame.
“Voting no on this bill is the bare minimum. The next step is demanding real leadership in the Senate – leadership that fights for working families instead of surrendering to an authoritarian regime. House Democrats are already joining Indivisibles in these calls, and the public is on the side of those who fight back. Democrats must be too, if they want to maintain any legitimacy.”
Indivisible launched its largest 2026 primary program in the organization’s history just less than 24 hours after the Senate Democrats caved. No Senate candidate who declines to call for Schumer to step down from leadership will earn Indivisible’s support in a primary. Every Democratic primary candidate must make a clear commitment to abandon the status quo of feckless leadership, and use every tool available to fight MAGA attacks on our communities, our health, and our democracy.
