“His victory is proof of what a candidate can accomplish with the dedicated support of the grassroots”
Washington, DC—The Indivisible Project’s National Political Director María Urbina released the following statement:
“Tom Malinowski won today by focusing on health care and fighting back against this administration’s divisive rhetoric, avoiding the daily partisan mudslinging that voters have tired of. Tom inspired the grassroots and voters of the Seventh District to deliver tonight’s win.”
“From the first town halls held here, it was clear this wasn't going to be like other years in NJ-07. People became energized and took matters into their own hands. Indivisible and grassroots groups in the district educated voters on Leonard Lance’s record and then worked equally as hard to get Tom elected. His victory is proof of what a candidate can accomplish with the dedicated support of the grassroots.”
NJ7 Forward leader Margaret Illis released the following statement:
“Tom’s victory tonight marks a turning point for our district and confirms that political power belongs to the people. For the past two years, our group has been voicing our concerns to Leonard Lance but we were continuously dismissed. We wanted better representation and, after months of hard work getting out the vote, we finally have it with Tom. He represents the views of our district and we know he has the leadership skills to implement significant change as a congressman. The past two years have been a rollercoaster ride but we are nowhere near finished. We will continue advocating for the change we want and are thrilled we will finally have an ally in Congress.”
To earn Indivisible’s national endorsement, a candidate must clear a tough three-stage process that requires buy-in from local Indivisible group members at multiple points. A candidate cannot be endorsed without a strong platform and the enthusiastic support of informed energized voters across their district.
