Washington, DC—The Indivisible Project’s State & Local Policy Manager Jiggy Athilingam released the following statement:
“Tonight, voters took legislating into their own hands and passed landmark progressive policies at the ballot box — from restoring voting eligibility to 1.4 million Floridians to unrigging the redistricting process and expanding Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of Americans across multiple states.”
“Over the last two years, even as they resisted Trump and Republican-led attacks against our communities, Indivisibles across the country have forged ahead to fight for progress in their own states and on their own terms. The work is only getting started. So far tonight, we’ve flipped six state legislative chambers from Republican to Democratic control, gained five new Democratic trifectas, and broke three Republican trifectas. In order to take back our country from Republicans, we must make gains at the state level and continue the process of unrigging an electoral system that favors the rich and powerful over the will of American voters. Next year, Indivisibles will take their activism to statehouses across the country to continue to advocate for the policies they believe in.”
