Washington, DC -- Tonight, Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin, Co-Executive Directors of the Indivisible Project, released the following statement on the revelations about Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia:
“The image that surfaced of Governor Northam today is profoundly offensive and unacceptable. Blackface and the use of KKK regalia evoke our country’s deep history of white supremacy and racial violence -- a history that we must continue to reckon with as a nation.
“Apologies cannot address or repair the pain caused or the trust broken; action is needed. We call on Governor Northam to resign immediately.”
Indivisible Charlottesville (VA-05) issued the following statement:
"The photo on Gov. Northam’s yearbook page released today is disgusting and reprehensible. Sadly, racism is deeply rooted in our culture and institutions, but it has no place in our society and that was as true in 1984 as it is today. People of goodwill have no choice but to condemn white supremacy in all its forms: whether it’s Nazis marching in the streets of Charlottesville or students making light of KKK terrorism in the pages of a yearbook. Gov. Northam should resign immediately."
