Washington, DC — The Indivisible Project’s associate policy director Elizabeth Beavers released the following statement urging the House of Representatives to support H. J. Res. 37, a war powers resolution ordering an end to U.S. participation in the Saudi-led Yemen war:
“The people of Yemen have suffered for too long at the hands of U.S.-made and U.S.-supported bombs. At no point did Congress get to approve our participation in this war that violates international law and gives cover to the authoritarian Saudi regime, even after the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. The Constitution gives the voters and their elected representatives the power to make decisions on war and peace. It’s time for Congress to aggressively retake this power that for too long it has ceded to an unchecked executive.
“Today, the right choice couldn’t be clearer. It is time for the House of Representatives to pass the Yemen war powers resolution to end the U.S.-backed Saudi-led war in Yemen. It is time for Congress to reclaim democracy.”
