Washington, DC — Today, Mary Small, Legislative Director for the Indivisible Project issued the following statement:
“Today’s decision from the Supreme Court demonstrates the growing momentum in the country to reject Donald Trump's racist policy agenda and politics of division, and is the result of years of fierce, grounded organizing by immigrant young people and their allies. While we celebrate today that DACA is back in effect, we also know that much work still remains to ensure this program is permanent and protected against the whims of right-wing extremists, and that all immigrants, not just DACA recipients, can access the security and stability they deserve.
“To do this, the American people have a choice to make this November. For Trump, ending DACA was always an attempt to use immigrant youth as a bargaining chip for more money for a more expansive and less accountable deportation force. Especially in a moment where millions of people are taking to the streets in response to the murder of Black people at the hands of the police, we know that the deportation force is yet another manifestation of a larger law enforcement ecosytem that threatens the liberties of us all and the lives of all people of color. We will continue to advocate for the rights of Black and brown people, and to elect a President and a Congress that understand that #HomeisHere, #BlackLivesMatter, and who will work to #DefundHate.”
