Washington, DC — Today, The Indivisible Project issued the following statement:
"Indivisible is thrilled to hear that the Senate draft budget resolution includes expanding Medicare to cover dental, vision, and hearing. We expect to see critical investments in child care, paid leave, affordable housing, a path to citizenship, clean energy, and additional improvements to Medicare including drug price negotiations included in any serious budget resolution proposal. While we wait to see more details, the inclusion of key legislative priorities is a testament to the tireless efforts of congressional progressives, who have fought to restructure our economy so that all communities can thrive.
"However, it is clear that to usher in a true recovery for all, Congress must do more. The $3.5 trillion offered by the Senate is the floor not the ceiling. House Democrats must use the power of their majority to augment this proposal to truly meet the scale of the current crises. Furthermore, while our economy would be strengthened by additional progressive taxation to make sure the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share, Democrats must not limit urgent and necessary investments because of the myth that it all must be paid for.
"American families are just now starting to experience some of the benefits passed in the American Rescue Plan, like direct cash from the Child Tax Credits being issued this week. Democrats must embrace this type of bold action to improve the lives of millions across the country and deliver on progressive promises made to voters. This requires House Democrats to assert themselves as the progressive chamber and build the transformative plan we know this moment demands. "
