Washington, D.C.—On Monday, Indivisible’s Co-Executive Director Leah Greenberg issued the following statement as Congress returned to session with a signed agreement extracted by the Congressional Progressive Caucus from conservative House Democrats pledging to support Build Back Better (BBB) Act passage, following the release of fiscal information from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO):
“House Democrats are on the verge of passing a bill that will make a real difference in people’s lives. It’s time to take that vote, pass that bill and send it to the Senate and to President Biden’s desk -- ASAP.
“The investments in this package will provide truly life-changing relief to families feeling an economic squeeze. After months of negotiations, we shouldn’t delay a day more in moving this bill forward.
“Conservative Democrats agreed that the week of November 15th they will vote yes on the Build Back Better Act, saying they only needed time to see fiscal information from the Congressional Budget Office that confirms what the White House and House Leadership have repeatedly demonstrated -- that the BBB is paid for. We expect they will receive that reassurance this week, keep their word, and stop delaying progress any longer.
“Democrats have had almost their entire caucus aligned and ready to send this bill to the Senate for months. Progressives have held up their end of the deal. Now the few remaining holdout conservative Democrats must stop delaying the passage of this crucial bill, vote yes on the Build Back Better Act and make this a historic week for the House.”
