Congress must pass bills to fully fund the federal government by September 30th or risk a government shutdown. Republicans control both Congress and the White House, so they’re responsible for enacting a budget that keeps the government open. But since any funding bill must clear the 60-vote filibuster threshold in the Senate, Democrats have real leverage here.

Democrats must oppose any Republican budget that allows Trump’s chaos and lawlessness to continue unchecked. Any government funding deal must halt his attacks on federal agencies and programs that Americans count on for their health, safety, and economic security and begin reining in the corruption of Trump’s regime.

• Ask if they will publicly commit to opposing any MAGA budget that takes away our healthcare and other essential services millions of families rely on, while creating slush funds to terrorize our communities. Tell them you expect them to stand strong against any Republican attempt to hold the government hostage to pass an extreme budget, and remind them your district/state is already being harmed by the Trump regime’s status quo.
• Urge them to fight for the government funding deal to restore access to healthcare that Republicans ripped away or jeopardized for millions of Americans. Trump’s billionaire tax scam took a chainsaw to Medicaid and will shutter rural hospitals, and Republicans are threatening to jack up the price of health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Congress must permanently extend the ACA tax credits, and prevent the harms of Trump’s healthcare cuts.
