Some of the right-wing Supreme Court justices are completely out of control, engaging in behavior that’s questionable at best and corrupt at worst. There have been countless reports of Clarence Thomas accepting perks like luxury vacations on private jets and yachts from billionaires with questionable motives. And Samuel Alito is still ruling on cases related to the January 6 insurrection and Donald Trump, despite being caught flying his flag upside down – a symbol of support for the attempted coup and Trump.
This calls the Court’s impartiality and fairness into question. The Supreme Court is supposed to be a fair arbiter of the law and the constitution, not a vending machine that grants favors to billionaires and Donald Trump.
That’s why Congress must pass the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act (SCERT) to create meaningful and enforceable ethical guidelines for SCOTUS as well as a binding code of conduct for all justices.
SCERT is a crucial first step to protect our democracy, so we need all of our Democratic Members of Congress to sign on and make it clear they won’t condone a corrupt Court. Then, we need to call our Republican members who refuse to hold the MAGA justices accountable.
