WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, after news that the Biden administration waived 26 environmental, public health, and cultural resource protection laws, including the American Indian Religions Freedom Act and the Clean Air Act, in order to fast-track border wall construction in south Texas, Indivisible co-executive director, Leah Greenberg, issued the following statement:
“The Biden Administration's DHS decision to fast-track border wall construction is a betrayal of our values. It not only endangers vulnerable migrants seeking refuge but also ruthlessly sacrifices clean water, sacred Indigenous sites, and endangered species.
“Walls are a reaction rooted in anti-immigrant hate. Similar border walls have left a trail of death, suffering, and irrevocable environmental devastation along our southern border.
“The Biden Administration must swiftly and unequivocally reverse this decision and slam the brakes on any further border wall construction. Our principles of justice, environmental preservation, and respect for Indigenous sovereignty demand nothing less than the promises he made on the campaign trail: no bans, no walls.”
