Washington, DC—The Indivisible Project’s National Political Director María Urbina released the following statement:
“We’ve been proud to call Antonio Delgado an Indivisible candidate and today, we are thrilled to call him congressman-elect. Antonio understands the issues that the people in the 19th District care about and ran on a promise to fight for all families. Republicans in the district ran a campaign based on fear, running ugly, racist attacks. Antonio ran a campaign based on hope, talking about the issues that mattered most: providing real representation that answers to the people, not big dollar donors; protecting health care; and creating an economy that works for all working families.”
“Indivisible groups came together across the 19th District and helped build a powerful coalition behind Antonio Delgado. They were the ones knocking on doors and making phone calls for months, spreading the message that initially inspired them to voters across the district. The hard work of the grassroots is what led to today’s victory and their hard work is what will ensure candidates fulfill their progressive promises.”
IndivisibleNY19 leaders Deirdre Patterson and Lin Sakai released the following statement:
“Immediately following Trump’s inauguration, IndivisibleNY19 was determined to flip our district blue. We were dissatisfied with our government and understood that the best way to change it was by getting directly involved and electing candidates that listened to the needs of their constituents. We unified behind a compelling candidate for the 19th District in Antonio Delgado and also a magnificent slate of candidates in every county to form a bulwark against the Trump agenda at every level. Antonio’s victory shows the power of the grassroots and what a dedicated group of people can accomplish. We’re looking forward to working with Antonio to enact the change our district needs.”
The Indivisible Project endorsed Antonio Delgado following the endorsement of IndivisibleNY19. To earn Indivisible’s national endorsement, a candidate must clear a tough three-stage process that requires buy-in from local Indivisible group members at multiple points. A candidate cannot be endorsed without a strong platform and the enthusiastic support of informed energized voters across their district.
