Washington, DC—The Indivisible Project’s National Political Director María Urbina released the following statement on Ayanna Pressley’s victory in Massachusetts’ 7th Congressional District:
“Ayanna Pressley’s historic victory tonight defied conventional wisdom. We are so proud to call her an Indivisible candidate.
“We’re proud of Indivisible groups that have stood with Ayanna for months, and put their support behind a candidate who matched their values and embraced an unapologetically progressive platform. We’re even more proud of the way they’ve then turned out to knock doors, make phone calls, and do the work to get that candidate elected.
“Ayanna Pressley knows that resisting Trump is not enough. Progressives have to be willing to push for policies that will lead to meaningful change. As the first black congresswoman elected from Massachusetts, Ayanna will bring a vital – and often underheard – perspective to her work. In Congress, she will be a voice for all families in the Seventh.”
The Indivisible Project endorsed Ayanna Pressley following the endorsement of Indivisible Somerville. To earn Indivisible’s national endorsement, a candidate must clear a tough three-stage process that requires buy-in from local Indivisible group members at multiple points. A candidate cannot be endorsed without a strong platform and the enthusiastic support of informed, energized voters across their district.
