“This victory belongs to Indivisible OC48.”
Washington, DC—The Indivisible Project’s National Political Director María Urbina released the following statement:
“Harley Rouda beat the odds and proved to the Democratic party — and the country — that meaningful engagement of the grassroots is a winning strategy. We are proud to call him an Indivisible candidate.
“Harley Rouda first earned the early support of Indivisible groups in the 48th with his tenacious commitment to addressing systemic issues in our society: from gun violence, to protections for Dreamers and other undocumented immigrants, to the corrupting influence of money in politics. Harley’s refusal to take corporate PAC contributions and his meaningful engagement of the grassroots were a winning strategy in the fight for real representation for the 48th District that’s not beholden to corporate lobbyists or special interests.
“This victory belongs to Indivisible OC48. They built a truly innovative public vetting process and came out of it with an endorsement that reflected their values. The series of public forums Indivisible OC48 held had a huge impact on this key national race. It pushed candidates to go deeper and engage with issues that mattered to them — from health care to gender equity to racial justice — and helped narrow the field in a challenging race for Democrats.”
Indivisible OC48 chairman Aaron McCall released the following statement:
“Harley Rouda has been a fantastic candidate who captured the hearts and minds of the constituents in the district. During this election, Harley gained our unfaltering support by showing us that he genuinely cares about us and is willing to fight for our rights. We know he will make a great congressman because his entire campaign has been focused on his constituents’ needs. Indivisible OC48 looks forward to working with Harley for a better 48th and a better nation.”
The Indivisible Project endorsed Harley Rouda following the endorsement of Indivisible OC48. To earn Indivisible’s national endorsement, a candidate must clear a tough three-stage process that requires buy-in from local Indivisible group members at multiple points. A candidate cannot be endorsed without a strong platform and the enthusiastic support of informed, energized voters across their district.
