Washington, D.C. — Today, Indivisible’s Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director Leah Greenberg released the following statement on Janelle Bynum’s victory in Oregon’s 5th congressional district:
“Indivisible congratulates Janelle Bynum, and Indivisibles across Oregon’s 5th, who have worked tirelessly over the last two years to make this moment happen. Lori Chavez-DeRemer has spent the last two years in office as a vocal and loyal ally to the MAGA extremists in her party, abandoning her constituents and ignoring their calls.
“For the last two years, Indivisibles across the district have tried to get answers from her on her positions and were met with radio silence. They refused to back down, and took matters into their own hands by researching and starting ‘Tell The Truth Lori,’ where they exposed her far-right positions and out-of-touch rhetoric, held protests, and reached out to voters. Now, that hard work has paid off.
“Janelle Bynum will finally be a representative and voice for Oregon’s 5th district in Congress. As a state representative, she’s worked hard to deliver for her community – from bringing business into the district to securing investments for mental health care and expanding youth voter engagement. We are confident she will be a force for progress in Congress, and congratulate her and the entire district for this big win!”
Indivisible identified Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as one of eighteen Unrepresentatives following the 2022 election, working with local groups to hold her accountable for supporting MAGA extremism despite representing a Biden-voting district.
