Washington, D.C. — Today, Indivisible’s Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director Ezra Levin released the following statement on Laura Gillen’s victory in New York’s 4th congressional district:
"Tonight, we’re celebrating Laura Gillen’s victory in her race against Anthony D’Esposito in New York’s 4th congressional district. Her victory is not only a testament to the strength of her campaign and her vision for the district, but it’s also a rejection of D’Esposito’s embrace of MAGA policies and failure to represent his constituents.
“Despite representing a district where Biden won big in 2020, D’Esposito embraced MAGA extremism and stood by Donald Trump, even as the former president attacked the rights and safety of his constituents. He thought his extremism would fly under the radar, but he was wrong. Indivisibles across the district were paying attention, talking to voters, and writing to local papers to make sure everyone in the district knew where D’Esposito stood.
“Gillen’s approach could not have been more different. Since launching her campaign, Gillen has taken time to connect with voters and community groups across the district, and listened to their concerns. From the economy to democracy to reproductive freedom, she’s proven to be a champion for the values her constituents believed in. Her leadership inspired Indivisibles across the district to get involved and write postcards, host monthly canvasses, make calls, and be public messengers for Gillen throughout the cycle.
“We’re confident that Laura Gillen will be a strong voice for NY-04 in Washington, and congratulate every activist, volunteer, and voter who helped make her victory possible.”
Indivisible identified Rep. Anthony D’Esposito as one of eighteen Unrepresentatives following the 2022 election, working with local groups to hold him accountable for supporting MAGA extremism despite representing a Biden-voting district.
