WASHINGTON, D.C.—Tonight, Indivisible celebrates a sweeping Democratic victory in Virginia, where voters elected Abigail Spanberger as Governor, Ghazala Hashmi as Lieutenant Governor, and Democrats flipped the House of Delegates, securing a pro-democracy majority across every level of state government.
“Virginians turned out in force to reject Trump’s regime. From the top of the ticket down, they chose leaders who will fight for working families and go on offense against authoritarian overreach,” said Ezra Levin, co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible. “We’re proud of every Indivisible group and creator who poured their hearts into this campaign. Their work flipped the House, reclaimed the Governor’s Mansion, and put a big obstacle in front of Trump and his MAGA allies.
“This year, we’ve seen three of the largest protests in American history, with Hands Off in April, No Kings in June, and No Kings 2 in October. Today, we saw a fourth mass pro-democracy moment this year that demonstrated beyond a doubt: when people organize together, we win. Now it’s up to Governor-elect Spanberger and the new Democratic majority in Virginia to keep building on that mandate and protect their state from their problematic neighbor.
“This victory isn’t just about Virginia. In the first major election since the Trump regime’s return, Virginians set the stage for the 2026 midterms and sent a clear message to Congress that Republicans’ cruelty and chaos must be stopped – starting with holding the line for healthcare in this Republican shutdown. This win is a rejection of this regime, and a reminder to all of us that when we stand together, we win.”
