Washington, DC — Today, Indivisible issued the following statement following Thomasina Marsili’s victory in the Democratic Primary for Indiana’s Eighth Congressional District.
“Indivisible is excited to celebrate yet another victory of a proven progressive candidate in their race for Congress. Marsili’s win adds her to the growing list of progressive candidates ready to rebuild this country and make it work for everyone,” said Lucy Solomon, IE Political Director. “In her race, Marsili emphasized the importance of expanding health care for everyone, instituting a living wage for workers, and strengthening our public education system. The results from last night show that more and more Americans support these priorities and that progressives are finding support all across the country, even in Mike Pence’s Indiana.”
Indivisible announced its national endorsement of Marsili in January following a nomination process from its local Indivisible group, Indivisible Indiana 8th District. Since then, local Indivisibles have been volunteering and making efforts to assist the campaign, including initiating a peer-to-peer texting program that sent nearly 34,000 texts in support of Marsili’s candidacy.
“Thomasina ran an energetic campaign that established her tireless commitment to progressive values that resonate with people from all walks of life. Her deep connections to the district and her leadership through the Democratic Party make her the best choice for Indiana,” said Dawn Carlson of Indivisible Indiana 8th District. “We’re glad to have stood with her throughout this campaign and are even more excited to continue to support her to ensure she can be our champion in Congress.”
Indivisibles in Indiana have been closely following Marsili since her race for the Indiana State House in 2018. Though defeated then, her activism in the district maintained enthusiasm and support for her eventual Congressional run. By clinching the Democratic nomination last night, she will go on to face incumbent Republican Larry Bucshon in the general election.
