Indivisible Endorses Raquel Terán for Congress in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Indivisible, one of the nation’s largest national progressive grassroots organizations, announced its endorsement of Raquel Terán in the Democratic primary for U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District:
"When it comes to righteous fights, Raquel isn’t someone who just talks the talk; she walks the walk. Like many Indivisibles, Raquel Terán got her start with a clipboard and a pen, registering folks to vote at a ‘Today We March, Tomorrow We Vote’ immigrant rights event 15 years ago. Since then, Raquel has grown through all the different iterations of an organizer and built deep community ties. She is the only candidate endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Reproductive Freedom for All, End Citizens United, and LUCHA – a testament to her ability to build special relationships across this broad coalition and connect with so many parts of Arizona. From organizing against anti-immigrant extremists as an activist to expanding healthcare as a member of the state legislature and raising the minimum wage as a state senator, Raquel has shown time and time again that she will fight for every day Arizonans. Indivisible is thrilled to join our network of local leaders and community members across Arizona’s 3rd congressional district to endorse Raquel Terán for Congress,” said Mari Urbina, Managing Director and Lead for the Arizona Battleground program at Indivisible.
“Raquel is a leader who takes seriously building a more just and inclusive democracy. Her deep and personal experience organizing her community will translate to governing tenaciously for everyday people. We’ve been struck by how committed Raquel is to ensuring her district staff is ever present, available, and able to communicate the urgent needs of the district to her congressional staff in Washington, to deliver the resources all Arizonans deserve. Indivisible is humbled to work with a leader like Raquel Terán and is honored to endorse her to represent Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District,” said Michael Deegan-McCree, Associate Political Director and Federal Races Lead of Indivisible’s Battlegrounds Program.
“When Indivisible South Mountain heard that there would be an open primary for Arizona’s deep blue 3rd Congressional district, they recognized they had a rare opportunity to elect a Democrat that shares and will fight for their values, and knew they had to get involved. There’s really only one question you must answer when considering an endorsement: Which candidate do you think is the best person to hold the political office being sought? When Indivisible South Mountain evaluated the candidates and asked their membership who they wanted to organize under, Raquel Terán was the resounding choice,” said Signa Oliver, Group Leader with Indivisible South Mountain.
To earn Indivisible’s national endorsement, candidates must demonstrate they’ve earned broad and committed support from their local Indivisible network. All endorsed candidates must have a strong progressive platform aligned with our movement’s values and the enthusiastic support of informed, energized voters in their district.
Indivisible South Mountain in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District formally endorsed Raquel Terán and recommended her to Indivisible for our national endorsement.
