Washington, D.C. — Indivisible’s Political Director, Dani Negrete, released the following statement in response to House Democrats launching a discharge petition to force the Republican majority to allow a vote on the Right to Contraception Act:
“For decades, Republicans have attacked access to birth control by slashing funding for family planning programs, restricting access to emergency contraception, and leveraging the courts to eliminate reproductive rights. Now, with Roe gone, Republicans are doubling down on their crusade to control the reproductive choices of every person in every state.
“House Democrats demonstrated they will use every tool available to protect the American people from MAGA attacks on their fundamental freedoms. This discharge petition will force every so-called ‘moderate’ Republican to choose a side: anti-choice extremism or their own constituents and their right to access contraception.
“For any member working to protect our freedoms instead of erode them, this should be a no-brainer: support this discharge petition and vote for the Right to Contraception Act.”
