Washington, DC—Today, the Indivisible Project announced its endorsement of Ben Jealous for Maryland governor.
“Ben Jealous has spent his entire career fighting for the advancement of civil rights. His record as a community organizer and as President of the NAACP proves that Ben is committed to progressive ideals and that he has the experience to implement them. Marylanders around the state are backing Ben’s candidacy for governor because they know he will fight for everyone. Today, we join them in throwing our support behind Ben” said María Urbina, the National Political Director of the Indivisible Project.
“Indivisible members all over Maryland have been working tirelessly to get Ben elected. His support for Medicare for All, increasing teacher pay, and working towards tuition-free college has driven the grassroots to take this election into their own hands,” Urbina said. “We know they won’t stop their efforts until Ben wins and neither will we. We’re excited to see Ben become Maryland’s first black governor. From now until November, Indivisible will stand behind Ben.”
To earn Indivisible’s national endorsement, a candidate must clear a tough three-stage process that requires buy-in from local Indivisible group members at multiple points. A candidate cannot be endorsed without a strong platform and the enthusiastic support of informed, energized voters across their district. Indivisible believes Ben Jealous has all those qualities, and more.
