Washington, DC—The Indivisible Project released the following statement on New York’s Democratic primaries:
“The IDC era is over. For twenty-one months, New York’s Indivisible groups have been fed up with politicians who get elected as Democrats and vote like Republicans. In opposition to sleazy backroom deals that disenfranchise large swaths of New York’s electorate, local Indivisible groups have relentlessly demanded their representatives actually represent them. At long last, with these victories tonight, New York can finally become a leading force into the post-Trump Era,” said Ezra Levin, Co-Executive Director of the Indivisible Project.
“For too many years, the IDC had been considered a norm of New York politics, despite its constant opposition to progress. But, this election season we’ve seen the grassroots stand up and say they’ve had enough. They canvassed, held rallies and organized phonebanks to support candidates challenging the IDC,” said Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of the Indivisible Project. “The victories witnessed today are proof of the power of local Indivisible groups working in coalition with other grassroots organizations and activists in their communities. It is because of their work that progressive candidates won today and it is because of their perseverance that New York will move in the right direction.”
“We’re proud of the Indivisible groups that put in the work to get their candidates elected up and down the ballot. Indivisibles from all over the state spent long hours calling voters, knocking on doors and getting people out to vote for their candidates,” said María Urbina, the National Political Director of the Indivisible Project. “Tonight’s victories belong to them. Indivisibles will ensure that their new representatives can be relied on to fight for progressive values. Their bold leadership will transform the Democratic party into a party that fights for policies that will help everyone.”
