Washington, DC — Today, Ezra Levin, Co-Executive Director of the Indivisible Project, issued the following statement:
“One of the chief priorities of the Indivisible movement is to make our government more representative of the people through critical democracy reforms -- like those in the For the People Act. But as we’ve said from the beginning, there is no democracy reform in the world that Senate Republicans will support. And early this morning, Republicans proved it again, by voting against bringing the For the People Act to the floor, objecting to consideration of the bill entirely, and delaying votes on two separate measures that would ban partisan gerrymandering and improve campaign finance disclosures.
“Majority Leader Schumer and voting rights activists have been working day in and day out to protect the right to vote. This remains an uphill battle not just because of Republican opposition, but because of a small number of Democratic senators who seem to care more about an arcane Senate rule (and, if we’re being honest, going on vacation) than they do about saving our democracy: Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, Chris Coons, and Tom Carper, among others. And so far in this fight, President Biden is only paying lip service to the cause.
“Senate Republicans not only blocked debate on the For the People Act as a whole, but are also blocking two other necessary and wildly popular reforms that would end partisan gerrymandering and shine a light on dark money. Any vote to keep the filibuster intact is a vote to allow their endless campaign of obstruction to continue. It’s a vote to block legislation that will help realize the promise of our democracy like the For The People Act, the DISCLOSE Act, and fair congressional maps untainted by partisan gerrymandering. Senate Republicans continue to show they do not care about our democracy. Senate Democrats must take up the updated For the People Act as a first priority in September after they return from recess.”

ABOUT THE INDIVISIBLE PROJECT
The Indivisible Project (501c4) is a social movement non-profit driven by a vision of a real democracy - of, by, and for the people. Indivisible began in 2016 as a viral guide to resisting Trump’s agenda. Today, the Indivisible movement is a network of thousands of local groups and millions of activists across every state. The Indivisible Project drives campaigns for bold progressive policies, lobbies Congress, and equips activists with tools to build lasting progressive power, everywhere. Together, we fight to defeat the rightwing takeover of American government and build an inclusive democracy.
