WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, in response to reporting that President Biden intends to nominate extreme right-wing, anti-choice lawyer Chad Meredith to a federal judgeship in Kentucky, Indivisible co-executive director Leah Greenberg issued the following statement:
“President Biden cannot go through with this deal and Meredith should never be confirmed to the federal bench. There’s no question about how Chad Meredith would rule as a judge. Given the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, no anti-choice lawyer should be nominated or confirmed at all.
“The fact that Chad Meredith is even being considered in this environment is sending up every red flag imaginable. Democrats should be loudly and proudly fighting for reproductive rights and access to abortion. There should be no doubt in Democratic voters’ minds that their party is unified on this. President Biden should clarify he won’t be announcing any nominees like Chad Meredith to lifetime judgeships so that they can put patients in further danger.
“Republicans have already stacked the federal judiciary with far-right partisans — we don’t need Democrats helping them do it.”
